Dublin 3 gets hi-tech connection

Dublin 3 gets hi-tech connection

10/02/2010 | feat. in the Irish Times

The East Wall area in Dublin's North Docklands has been chosen as the first area in the country to be linked to a new telecommunications cable running directly to the UK.

The landing point for the high capacity fibre-optic cable will have eight times more capacity than any other available cable in Ireland. Businesses will have the option of either buying a dedicated 32 gigabite wavelength line or leasing a managed capacity of up to 10 gigs.

The new cable will help position Ireland in attracting digital media and other technology companies which are so vital in the context of fostering today's smart economy.

With some of the best known ICT companies, including Cisco and Oracle, already based in the area the new connection will provide local tenants with the opportunity to access one of the most advanced telecommunications systems anywhere in the world.
